The transition from summer to fall crops bodes well for your shares this week. There will be a diverse assortment of veggies that I hope you will enjoy. We will be adding a new veggie as well as bringing back some old friends.
The new veggie is Delicata Squash. This winter squash, as the name suggests, has a delicate skin that really doesn't need to be peeled. You can prepare it similar to Butternut squash, but if you look at recipes, the required time to cook is less than your typical Butternut.
Making comebacks this week is Arugula (this variety has broad leaves and is my favorite arugula to date). Green Beans are also back this week and hopefully will be around for awhile.
The break down of your share looks like this:
Red Bell Peppers
This is the last week for our 3778 Sweet Corn, next week we should have another variety. I will be talking about this new corn in next week's blog. I will admit that this corn is on the older side, so the kernels will not pop off the cob, but it is certainly sweet.
I will also be making some super hot sauce this week. I have many of the top hot peppers, based on Scoville Units, ready to be used. This was a favorite to many people last year and I already have many orders this year for this sauce, but if you want a bottle, let me know. It should be ready next week and I'm charging $7 for a 5 oz bottle. Don't forget, that if you're interested, we also have eggs (now that most of the birds are laying, we have plenty this week), honey and many flavors of goat cheese. If you can give me a heads up, I would me more than happy to accommodate you.
If you would like to try one super hot, let me know and I can get one to you tomorrow.
I want to also remind you that October 10th is our last CSA basket. Among other things, we should have a pumpkin for you. Please bring back your plastic containers and I will see everyone from 3:30-6:30 tomorrow.
